Messaging Policy

This Messaging Policy governs the use of all messaging and communication features available through RecoveryBuddy AI (“RecoveryBuddy AI,” “we,” “our,” or “us”), including direct messages, group messages, provider messaging, Peer Recovery Coach messaging, organization messaging, meeting chat, community messaging, notifications, file sharing, and other communication tools (collectively, the “Messaging Services”).

This Policy should be read together with the RecoveryBuddy AI Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Community Guidelines, Recovery Community Standards, AI Terms of Use, and other applicable legal policies.

By using the Messaging Services, you agree to comply with this Messaging Policy.

Purpose of the Messaging Services

RecoveryBuddy AI provides secure communication tools to help users:

  • Connect with Peer Recovery Coaches.

  • Communicate with healthcare providers.

  • Participate in recovery meetings.

  • Coordinate recovery plans.

  • Collaborate with treatment organizations.

  • Receive educational support.

  • Build healthy recovery relationships.

  • Participate in recovery communities.

Messaging is intended to support recovery-related communication and collaboration.

Types of Messaging

RecoveryBuddy AI may provide:

  • Direct messages.

  • Group messages.

  • Community conversations.

  • Recovery meeting chat.

  • Provider messaging.

  • Organization messaging.

  • Administrative messages.

  • AI conversations.

  • System notifications.

  • File sharing.

  • Image sharing.

  • Document sharing.

  • Voice messages, where available.

  • Video messaging, where available.

Availability of messaging features may vary depending on account type, user role, or subscription.

Appropriate Use

Users must use Messaging Services lawfully, respectfully, and responsibly.

Messages should be:

  • Respectful.

  • Professional where appropriate.

  • Recovery-focused.

  • Truthful.

  • Relevant.

  • Constructive.

Healthy and supportive conversations are encouraged.

Prohibited Uses

Messaging Services may not be used to:

  • Harass another person.

  • Threaten violence.

  • Bully or intimidate.

  • Discriminate.

  • Promote hatred.

  • Send spam.

  • Send phishing messages.

  • Commit fraud.

  • Impersonate another person.

  • Spread malware.

  • Transmit viruses.

  • Distribute illegal content.

  • Promote criminal activity.

  • Buy or sell illegal drugs.

  • Solicit unlawful conduct.

  • Share copyrighted material without permission.

  • Circumvent Platform security.

  • Conduct unauthorized commercial advertising.

  • Exploit vulnerable individuals.

  • Violate another person’s privacy.

Messages violating this Policy may be removed, and user accounts may be restricted or terminated.

Confidentiality

Messaging may involve sensitive recovery, behavioral health, or personal information.

Users are expected to:

  • Respect confidentiality.

  • Protect private information.

  • Share information only with authorized recipients.

  • Verify recipient identities before sending sensitive information.

  • Avoid forwarding private communications without permission.

RecoveryBuddy AI cannot guarantee that recipients will maintain confidentiality.

Healthcare Communications

Providers, treatment organizations, and healthcare professionals using Messaging Services remain responsible for:

  • Complying with applicable healthcare privacy laws.

  • Protecting confidential information.

  • Exercising independent professional judgment.

  • Maintaining appropriate documentation where required.

  • Obtaining any required authorizations.

RecoveryBuddy AI provides communication technology but does not supervise professional communications.

Peer Recovery Coach Communications

Peer Recovery Coaches should:

  • Maintain professional boundaries.

  • Respect user privacy.

  • Avoid coercion.

  • Avoid exploitation.

  • Encourage informed decision-making.

  • Communicate respectfully.

  • Represent credentials accurately.

Peer Recovery Coaches are generally independent users of the Platform unless otherwise expressly agreed in writing.

Artificial Intelligence Messaging

RecoveryBuddy AI may allow users to communicate with artificial intelligence assistants.

AI-generated messages:

  • Are educational in nature.

  • May contain inaccuracies.

  • May be incomplete.

  • Should be independently evaluated.

  • Do not constitute medical advice.

  • Do not constitute mental health treatment.

  • Do not replace licensed professionals.

Users remain responsible for decisions made based upon AI-generated information.

File Sharing

Where Messaging Services permit file sharing, users may upload documents, images, or other files that they have the legal right to share.

Users may not upload files that:

  • Contain malware.

  • Violate intellectual property rights.

  • Contain illegal content.

  • Contain harmful software.

  • Infringe privacy rights.

  • Violate applicable law.

RecoveryBuddy AI may scan uploaded files for security purposes where permitted by law.

Availability of Messages

RecoveryBuddy AI strives to provide reliable Messaging Services but does not guarantee:

  • Immediate message delivery.

  • Continuous availability.

  • Uninterrupted service.

  • Immediate recipient responses.

  • Permanent storage of messages.

Service interruptions may occur due to maintenance, technical issues, third-party providers, or other operational circumstances.

Message Monitoring

RecoveryBuddy AI generally does not routinely review private user messages.

However, authorized personnel may review message content when reasonably necessary to:

  • Investigate reported abuse.

  • Respond to customer support requests.

  • Protect platform security.

  • Detect fraud.

  • Investigate suspected violations of our Terms or Policies.

  • Comply with legal obligations.

  • Respond to lawful requests from government authorities.

Access is limited to authorized personnel with a legitimate business need.

Message Retention

Messages may be retained in accordance with the RecoveryBuddy AI Privacy Policy and Data Retention Policy.

Retention periods may vary depending on:

  • User settings.

  • Organizational requirements.

  • Legal obligations.

  • Security requirements.

  • Platform functionality.

Deletion of messages from your account does not necessarily remove copies retained by authorized recipients or backups.

Emergency Communications

RecoveryBuddy AI Messaging Services are not emergency communication services.

Users should not rely upon Messaging Services to obtain emergency assistance.

If you or another person is experiencing:

  • A medical emergency.

  • A psychiatric emergency.

  • Suicidal thoughts.

  • Self-harm.

  • Drug overdose.

  • Immediate danger.

Immediately contact 911 or your local emergency services.

RecoveryBuddy AI cannot guarantee immediate review or response to messages.

Reporting Misuse

Users are encouraged to report messages involving:

  • Harassment.

  • Threats.

  • Fraud.

  • Spam.

  • Impersonation.

  • Abuse.

  • Privacy violations.

  • Security concerns.

  • Illegal activity.

Enforcement

  • Communication technologies.

  • Operational experience.

Updated versions will be posted on the RecoveryBuddy AI website with a revised Last Updated date.
